Cooking Champions: A Food Charity Making a Difference in North London

by | 11 Nov, 2025 | other

Cooking Champions in Enfield began with a simple idea – that food has the power to bring people together. What started from our Founder’s kitchen in 2020 has now grown into a registered charity with a thriving community kitchen at its heart, run by a team of experienced staff and devoted volunteers.

Over the past few years, Cooking Champions has served tens of thousands of meals, welcomed families through its doors week after week, and created a space where everyone belongs. The numbers tell one story, but the impact goes far beyond statistics. Every meal served is also a moment of care, a reminder that no one in our community should feel they are facing hard times alone.

When you step inside our bustling kitchen, you’ll find community lunches, open cooking sessions, food education workshops and much more. Here, cooking and community come together as one, every single week. People of all ages and backgrounds gather to cook, eat, learn, and laugh together. For some, it’s a safe space in tough times; for others, it’s a chance to pick up new skills or to meet locals. We are so proud to have created a kitchen that is open, lively, and welcoming – a place where connections form as naturally as the meals being prepared.

This summer, we were especially excited to launch ‘Kids Can Cook!’ – a brand-new programme of free workshops. With sessions for little chefs, teens, and even whole families, the initiative is all about giving young people confidence in the kitchen, teaching them to cook from scratch, and sparking creativity around food. Thanks to support from The Big Give and North London Waste Services, every workshop is completely free and open to all. Families have already told us how valuable it is to see their children proudly preparing a meal, learning about healthy eating, and discovering that cooking can be fun. For many, it’s also a rare opportunity to spend time together in a supportive environment that encourages both independence and teamwork.

Behind the scenes, keeping things running takes real commitment. Cooking Champions relies on a mix of donations, volunteers, and catering services to cover costs. Every contribution, whether it’s time, money, donations of equipment or services, helps ensure that the kitchen remains a lifeline for local people.

Want to get involved? Get in touch about becoming a volunteer or set up a monthly donation to keep this lifeline going. For details, email info@cookingchampions.uk or head to www.cookingchampions.uk.

Because when people cook, eat, and learn together, communities grow stronger.
