Here’s the latest from Enfield Council – from big wins in sport and education to greener streets, safer neighbourhoods and cultural highlights.
⚽ A New Era for Women’s Football
Tottenham Hotspur’s new professional women’s football training ground is coming to Whitewebbs – the first of its kind in the UK. A world-class facility on our doorstep, it’s set to inspire the next generation of players across the borough.
🏊 Leisure for All
Edmonton Leisure Centre’s 25m pool is back open after a full revamp – more space for Swim for All, Swim for Fitness and family fun. Add to that free outdoor gyms and holiday sports sessions, and there’s plenty to keep everyone moving.
📚 Education Boosts
Every Enfield school is now rated Good or Outstanding by Ofsted. Families are also saving with free childcare hours, universal primary school meals and new breakfast clubs. Big investments are transforming schools too – from a new sixth form at Winchmore to a £36m rebuild of Chase Community School, plus a brand-new special needs school coming in 2027.
🏠 Housing & Safer Streets
Enfield has earned a top-performing C1 rating for social housing, showing strong standards in repairs, safety and tenant engagement. More Civil Enforcement Officers are now patrolling (up from 36 to 45), cracking down on illegal parking and keeping streets safe. And thanks to Trading Standards, a rogue roofer who tried to scam a resident has been prosecuted and forced to repay £22,000.
🌍 A Greener Borough
Consultation is open on borough-wide 20mph speed limits (excluding the A10 and A406), aimed at safer, healthier streets. Barrowell Green Recycling Centre is being resurfaced and will reopen 1 October – in the meantime, residents can head to the new EcoPark. Plus, a new planning guide is out to help homeowners get applications right first time.
🤝 Community Power
Crowdfund Enfield is live – offering up to £5,000 for resident-led ideas that improve neighbourhoods. Meanwhile, Meridian Water’s Community Chest has awarded £330,000 to 24 Edmonton organisations – funding projects from basketball and football training to poetry workshops and community gardens.
🎭 Black History Month at DAC
From 26 September, Dugdale Arts Centre is hosting a month-long celebration with a Windrush Fashion Exhibition, children’s workshops and live music paying tribute to the Harlem Renaissance and Duke Ellington.
