Live Unlimited – Supporting Barnet’s Care-Experienced Young People
Live Unlimited is a Barnet-based charity helping children and young people who are care-experienced – those not living with their parents, but in foster care, children’s homes, or with extended family. We offer life-changing opportunities through our schemes such as:
Driving Ahead is one of Live Unlimited’s most impactful programmes, giving care experienced young people the freedom and confidence that comes with learning to drive. Funded lessons and practical support help overcome financial barriers, opening doors to employment, education, and independence. So far, 32 young people have passed their test, with five going on to apply for jobs that require a licence – a mechanic, a mobile aesthetician, and three paramedics, and others using their licence to commute to college or university.
Holly said: “My experience with Driving Ahead has been like no other. Live Unlimited supported me every step of the way. They regularly checked in on me and facilitated any requests I needed. Because of this opportunity, I am now able to use my licence to enable me to carry out my university and work endeavours. Thank you for all your hard work in helping me to learn to drive and giving me this opportunity”
Care-experienced young people face huge challenges – 1 in 3 become homeless within two years of leaving care, and 38% are not in employment, education or training (compared to just 13% of their peers). A driving licence can genuinely transform their prospects – improving life chances and unlocking employment opportunities.
We urgently need funds to meet the growing demand for driving lessons. Could your company sponsor a place on the programme? Could you do a sponsored run/swim/cycle for us? £2,500 covers 56 lessons, a test, and officer support—these driving lessons are genuinely life-changing.
