Live Unlimited – Who We Are
Live Unlimited are a charity supporting children and young people who are care-experienced in the Borough of Barnet. This means children who don’t live with their parents but might live with a foster family, in a children’s home, or with another member of the family such as a grandparent. We support these children and young people through a variety of schemes, including a driving programme, Outdoor Club, and a series of creative schemes. We also have a fund called Imagination Unlimited where young people can request items that will help their wellbeing such as bikes, musical instruments and sports equipment.
Sound Lives Music Projects for Care Leavers – Summer 2024 and 2025
Live Unlimited has held two music projects for care leavers. These schemes have been delivered with our partners Art Against Knives, which aim to prevent youth violence. The programme included learning how to write lyrics and making beats using music software, as well as singing and rapping in a recording studio.
When Maisie began the project, she was unsure if she could sing. On hearing her voice, the team said they were “in awe” of her singing ability. Maisie’s confidence continued to grow throughout the week, with encouragement from the staff and practice in the studio.
Maisie said that the project was “a new experience, fun and eye opening” and she felt that she could “now call herself a singer”. Her favourite part was recording a song in the studio.
It is fantastic for us to be able to deliver projects to care-experienced young people, who often lack opportunities compared to their peers. Sound Lives has given these young people the chance to express themselves creatively, build their confidence, and make new friends.
