Having lived some of my favourite days in 1996, I can tell you with all honesty that Trainspotting provided a true cultural shift in pop culture, and one that literally took the world by storm. Danny Boyle’s blisteringly effective film, based off Irvine Welsh’s seminal book is celebrating its 30^th anniversary this year. That’s hard enough to imagine, but it’s safe to say that the film hasn’t lost any of its charm or verve. Ewan McGregor shines in his breakout role as Renton, a drug addict who is navigating life and trying to survive in Edinburgh. Throw in a soundtrack to die for and a cast including Robert Carlyle, Jonny Lee Miller, Ewen Bremner and Kelly Macdonald, and you have a must-see film that has stood the test of time. Be sure to check out this absolute masterpiece, heading back to cinemas for a very limited run to celebrate its three decades of excellence.
